Our Story

~Monique~

Monique Napier, Founder and CEO of Chic + Savvy Beauty Supply Inc. (CSBS) grew up in a West Indian household in Canada. Her mother spent Sunday afternoons braiding her hair for the school week. Wash days were a chore on its own and washroom cupboards were always stocked with beauty supplies from Mascoll's Beauty (if you know, you know! RIP Beverly Mascoll). Staples consisted of DAX pomade, Luster's SCurl and Vaseline. She was that little girl who washed, greased, curled and cut her Barbie's hair and played dress up in her mother's clothes. Yup, that was Monique!

Ethnic black beauty supplies lacked in the mainstream market and the beauty industry. Monique's mother was strategic and innovative when it came to hair care. Who would have thought to heat a fork on a stove burner to straighten ones hair. Fast-forward to adulthood, during secondary and post-secondary studies Monique worked at salon and spas, retail stores and a model and talent agency as a Hair Stylist for photo shoots.

~Savanna (Savvy)~

Being a mother of two daughters, Monique aims to look and feel her best with little effort, time and cost. Her influence stems from pop culture and making a good first and lasting impression. From braids, relaxers/perms, colours, flat/curling irons, transitioning, silk-press, clip-in ponytails, extensions, weaves/bundles, lace wigs and more! Monique has tried it all and has often been asked "Where do you get your hair done?", "What products do you use and where do you get them?", "Is that all your hair?" and the most popular question "Can I touch your hair?"

~Shawnique (Chic)~

Based on her lived experience and professional journey, Chic + Savvy Beauty Supply Inc. (CSBS) was born and proudly named after her daughters' nick names. CSBS is a black-owned family business, which was established in Brampton, ON, Canada in 2012. As an online beauty supplier their goal is to help everyone look and feel their best with little effort, time and cost one curl at a time while breaking racial barriers within the industry. They celebrate beauty and thrive to develop an online community where everyone can journey together and unapologetically share their experiences regardless of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnicity and gender identity.

The ethnic/black beauty industry has experienced many twist and turns, and CSBS looks forward to redefining the experience.
